DAICEL Pyro-Fuse (PDD) Proposal
Pico Inc. offers pyro fuses (PDD) manufactured by Daicel Corporation.
The pyro fuse is a high-speed current interrupting device developed and mass-produced for BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles).
Upon receiving an external electrical signal, the internal mechanism activates to instantaneously sever the conductive path in 2 milliseconds or less, ensuring the safety of high-voltage circuits during accidents or system abnormalities. Unlike conventional fuses that rely on overcurrent to melt the element, the pyro fuse can intentionally and actively interrupt the circuit at the exact timing required.
For industrial applications, it can also enhance the safety of data centers, ESS (Energy Storage Systems), and PCS (Power Conditioning Systems), where direct current and high-voltage trends are advancing.
